Coalgate: Vedanta slams govt move to bat for just 46 blocks

Vedanta believes that their coal blocks should not be cancelled if there is no case of criminality.

Vedanta Group's two coal blocks have been facing de-allocation. In an interview to CNBC-TV18, the company's counsel Ratan Kumar Singh hit out at the government for trying to save just 46 coal blocks.

Vedanta believes that their coal blocks should not be cancelled if there is no case of criminality.

"First of all, this felt from the government of the day that they want, if at all Supreme Court is agreebale, was the caveat from aside. If SC is agreeable, let 40+6 survive with the rider that they will be paying 295. Again this magical figure of 295 from CAG's report is of no use. But I would say, that should not have been the situation, they should have categorically said, anyone, who was otherwise eligible for the allocation as per the policies of the relevant time, their case should be scrutinized. If they are not found involved in any criminal act, they should be safe. That should have been the right approach of the government, not this distinction," he said.
