Ever since Marissa Mayer took over as Yahoo's chief executive officer (CEO), the internet giant has literally monopolised headlines with its shopping spree acquiring 20 start-ups including Tumblr at USD 1.1billion.

CNBC-TV18 interviews Rose Tsou, senior vice-president, APAC at Yahoo to know about the company's plans for India.

Below is the verbatim transcript of he interview on the channel

Q: What do you really make of the Indian story at this point in time? It is a market that has now come down to about 5 percent growth rate from an 8 percent growth rate. Has that changed Yahoo's outlook on India. Does India continue to be one of your most strategically important markets?

A: India is a very important market for us. Internet penetration in the market is only 10 percent and so, there is a huge room to grow.

Yahoo right serves close to 60 percent of the internet users in India and we have seen tremendous growth on our mobile as well.

Our advertising business has been very healthy. So, even though the general economy might be little weak but this is really a new media space and the growth is still very phenomenal.

Q: Do you see yourself hiring more in India? Are you upping your headcount here significantly?

A: Yahoo has a very sizeable presence in the Indian market. We have talent from business side and also on the engineering side. Bangalore is one of our biggest engineering centers outside the US. So, talent is the key and we are heavily investing in India.

Q: Yahoo has been on a shopping spree. You are looking at inorganic growth in India and especially the acqui-hire route that you have decided to take globally, could that be a possibility in India as well?

A: Bringing great talent organically and through acquisition has been our global priority and it is a global strategy including India.

We are looking at targets that can complement with our business for engineering talent and so on.

Q: Outside India, how much does Asia Pacific contribute currently to Yahoo's growth?

A: Right now it represents around 20 percent of the company's revenue and we continue to see very healthy growth from this region.

Q: You said mobile is going to be the big bet for Yahoo. What kind of products will you be betting on specifically in India?

A: Mobile is absolute one. It is a priority for our products. In terms of the big bets in India, it really is to continue and focus on the strategy and priority.
